Unofficial Board Meeting Minutes February Board meeting
Message from Club President
The H H Franklin Club, Inc. President Bob Amon
To: Franklin club members and visitors
From: Bob Amon, HHFC president
Date: February 26, 2010
On the way to work this morning I saw a blue bird. Normally I would not be excited but it has been a wet, cold winter all over the USA as well as for our members in Europe and the blue bird gave me a ray of hope for spring. You might want to start making a list of what needs to be done in order to get your Franklin into the forthcoming sunshine.
Of course you know the drill . Change oil, check transmission, replace tires, clean the radiator (not really but just to see if you paying attention). The thing I want to remind you of is your trailer. What about the tires, brakes, and replace those burned out bulbs. Drivers everywhere seem to be getting less tolerant of antique cars and trailers so be prepared in case of the rude driver.
Once you have your car and trailer ready to go, I hope that you are planning to take it to Hickory Corners, Michigan in May for the opening of the Franklin Collection. The Mid West region has a really great program planned beginning on Thursday May 13th and continuing through dinner on Saturday. Friday night will offer a Franklin club only preview of the new 6800 sq ft building and collection and then Saturday will be the grand opening with hopefully a lot of local folks joining for the ribbon cutting.
The interior pictures, shots of the Franklins arriving at their new home, and the You Tube movie of the 1904 Franklin Trek are all good previews but to see all of this come together on May 15th should be spectacular and truly a historical day for the H H Franklin Club. Please try to come and be a part of the big event.
Some interesting facts come across my Franklin desk and the following is one of those facts. Richard Laymon of Lincoln, Nebraska, was only 18 years old when he joined the Franklin club in 1953. 57 years later he is still a member and owns a 1929 Franklin sedan. This started me to thinking. Can anyone best this record of longevity? I am not trying to embarrass anyone about their age but this is an area that deserves recognition. My email is rjmmamon@earthlink.net so let me know.
Richard Laymon was 18 years old when he joined the HHFC. Today he could join as a transitional member which would carry him until age 23. Bob Ullery has given the club what I like to call the Ullery Membership Stimulus Plan of 2010. Bob is offering to pay the first year membership of one transitional member from each of our 50 states. There will be more details in the upcoming Air Cooled News but this is a great time to contact that young person who stops by your garage and get them involved. Bob's offer is generous but it depends on your action so let's get busy and add 50 members.
Finally as many of you know, the HHFC supports the auto restoration program at McPherson College. A student usually attends the Trek and several members have been assisting Kevin McNutt in the restoration of a 1928 Franklin 12B sedan. You will have a chance to see the progress on this sedan at a car show to be held at McPherson College on May 7 and 8, 2010 and meet Kevin. It would be great if someone from the HHFC could attend and be a representative for the club. If this trip might work out for you please let me know and I will get you the particulars.
The turn signals on my trailer are not working and the transmission is leaking so back to work. Aura Vincit, Bob Amon

During the trek with the day to be determined.
November 6th at Caz
All meetings except during the Trek will have an informal dinner on Friday night with the location to be determined usually by Kathy & Andy Wittenborn. Of course everything is dutch treat but everyone is welcome. I am not ruling out a change of venue in the future as needs may dictate or as members may request.
All board meetings except at the Trek will begin at 10AM in order to allow those who want to come up early Saturday time to get to Caz.
